Remember to take time for self care
Making time for self-care is important for your overall health.
Watching the news every hour or scrolling social media a little too much, it’s easy to get lost in the noise of what’s going on. And you’re not alone in this.
If you’ve found yourself in an extended state of self-quarantine, there are some simple steps you can take to protect your mental health, in addition to your physical health.
Make time to unwind
Make time for projects that make you happy, or learn a new skill. A few ideas might include:
1) Practice a hobby or creative activity
2) Take an online class
3) Clean, organize, de-clutter your space
4) Read
5) Learn a new language
6) Cook a new recipe
Exercise to promote good health
Exercise of any kind helps boost and support the immune system. It’s also a great tool for managing anxiety and stress and will help you pass time throughout the day.
If you are able, go for a walk or run outside, while keeping your distance from others.
The good news is that Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are literally crawling with workout videos and tutorials. There is something for everyone on these platforms - low impact cardio, apartment-friendly workouts, no equipment required workouts (aka bodyweight workouts), yoga and more.
Moving your body every day is known to reduce stress and keep you healthy among other physical and mental benefits. So use your resources and get moving!
Be mindful, disconnect from the noise
Whether it’s the news, social media, or emails, stop consuming excessive content that adds to your fear, stress, and anxiety. There’s a fine line between staying informed and giving into the ego that loves drama.
So disconnect from the noise, put your phone away, and create a calm and peaceful headspace where you’re not pulled into the craze and panic.
Here are 5 FREE apps for mindfulness:

In closing
Taking steps to practice self-care will help a great deal to pass the time, and to feel like you’ve done something productive with the time.
Try to seek reliable, up to date, and accurate information, this will help to avoid feeling overwhelmed by all of the information that’s out there. Instead, you’ll feel well-informed and less anxious.
Lastly, remind yourself why you’re practicing isolation or quarantine. It’s to keep not only ourselves safe but our older neighbors down the street, our parents and others we care about who may be extra vulnerable.
